Intercultural executive coaching is for you if you work as an executive, a leader or a project manager in a global setting – and need some advice about a global or culture-related challenge.

Your challenges may be big or small, and your goals short- or long-term. You might need help breaking old habits or need to learn something completely new. It is up to you. You set the agenda for the coaching programme – and we’ll help you achieve your goal.

What are the benefits of intercultural executive coaching?

An intercultural executive coaching programme is an individual programme that focuses on creating the results that you want.

There are times when it’s best to use traditional coaching to find the solution to a challenge, where we help you find the answers yourself. There are other times when you might prefer individual training, mentoring and decisive counseling – or a mixture of all three. It all depends on what you want the programme to achieve.

We use the methods and tools that are needed to create a programme that’s really going to get things moving.

Examples of what you can achieve through intercultural executive coaching:

  • Strengthen your global leadership skills
You are an executive in a global organization and want to strengthen your global leadership skills. With six months of ongoing coaching we can work on areas such as: Developing the courage and ability to manage uncertainties and step out of your comfort zone. Making better decisions when facing complexities in the global field. And making things happen and achieving your goals.

  • Optimize your global communication and collaboration
You have an increasing number of global partners, colleagues and employees. Global leadership coaching strengthens your cultural self-awareness and helps you to communicate more consciously and effectively to global stakeholders. And you acquire powerful tools to navigate your way effectively in global collaboration.

  • Become fully equipped to lead in a new country or cultural environment
Let’s say you’re relocating to China, where you’ll be managing a new department. Although you have solid management experience from your home country, you lack input on how to achieve success as a manager in a Chinese context. We provide coaching on how you can adjust your leadership style and still be authentic – and we offer advice on how to best motivate your Chinese employees.

  • Gain control of your culture-related challenge
Maybe you lack influence in your multicultural leadership team. Or you identify that a group of employees with a different cultural background is suffering from a lack of confidence. Intercultural coaching helps you detect what lies at the heart of your challenge – cultural differences, your personal style, or something entirely different – so that you can adjust your thoughts and actions to gain control of your challenge.

  • Unlock the potential that diversity offers
You are the leader of an organization that is already promoting diversity – but you need input on how to move it forward. We coach you on how you can make cultural differences interact to create new knowledge and new solutions.

  • Solve conflicts with a global business partner
Have you hit a brick wall with an Indian supplier? Or have you stepped on the Japanese customer's toes and you’re not sure how to say sorry? With targeted coaching, we help you work out what the conflict is really about – and equip you with the tools to solve it in a culturally intelligent way.

  • Get ahead in your global career
The next step in your career is a management position with global responsibility. Through a combined coaching and mentoring programme, we identify the global skills that you need and then help you develop them.

The 4R Model has proven to be a valuable tool that gives a structured way to get a clear view of cultural differences.

Practicalities about intercultural executive coaching

Typically, an intercultural executive coaching programme proceeds as follows:

1. We start by defining the goals and framework of the programme together with you

First, we clarify the objectives of the coaching programme with you and/or the relevant parties in your organization.

Then we define the framework of the programme on this basis. Intercultural executive coaching can be anything from a single 3-hour coaching session to an ongoing programme lasting 6-12 months, and we can combine coaching with targeted training, mentoring and specialist advice.

You can be coached face-to-face or by phone/Skype.

2. We choose the coaches/trainers for the programme

We select coaches who best match the programme's objectives and content. We can include additional coaches or trainers who can contribute country- or culture-specific expertise if required.

Expect to meet coaches and trainers who are experienced, who know the tools inside out, who can meet you at eye level, and who have the courage to challenge you. Meet some of them here.

3. We deliver the programme and you create ongoing results in your day-to-day work

You and the coach start by diving into what you want to get out of the programme while aligning expectations.

We bring your challenges into focus during the coaching, and include relevant case studies, techniques, tools and exercises that can move you forward.

If the programme takes place over a longer period of time, you’ll work on breaking old habits that were holding you back and put new techniques and methods into practice in between sessions.

4. We wrap up and reflect on how you can continue to develop

We round off the programme by taking stock of how far you've come – and discuss how you can continue progressing from here.

It really inspired me that Annette had so much hands-on experience with cultural differences between Denmark and China. When I mentioned my challenges with the meetings in Denmark, she could refer to similar situations in other Danish companies working in China.
