GLOBAL STEPS is a facilitated, virtual learning programme that strengthens your global business skills.

GLOBAL STEPS can be delivered as an internal training programme for any group of managers / employees, as an open programme with participants from different organizations, or as an individual programme for a specific manager or employee.

We receive many questions about how GLOBAL STEPS works.

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about:

  1. GLOBAL STEPS in general (both internal and open programmes)
  2. Specific information about GLOBAL STEPS as an open programme
  3. Specific information about GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme

1. GLOBAL STEPS in general (both internal and open programmes)

Is GLOBAL STEPS the right choice for me?

If you:

  • Have tasks that involve collaboration across countries or cultures
  • Wish to develop global skills that will enable you to better perform these tasks
  • Want to develop these new skills through a unique learning programme that combines high MOTIVATION (regular feedback from an intercultural trainer and the other participants) with high FLEXIBILITY (everything takes place online and at your own pace)

then GLOBAL STEPS is the perfect choice for you!

What do I gain from taking GLOBAL STEPS?

GLOBAL STEPS will give you:

  1. Heightened cultural intelligence – an awareness that enables you to examine and explore your own as well as your global colleagues' cultural assumptions and business expectations.
  2. Ability to adapt your work style to achieve effective results in your global collaborations.
  3. Skills to develop communication strategies to expand trustworthy business relations to global partners.

Along the way, you'll get a number of practical tools, which you can refer to whenever you need to navigate your way through an international or global setting.

How much – or how little – global experience do I need to participate?

There are no requirements. If you’ve just started collaborating with global colleagues or partners, then GLOBAL STEPS will give you a good foundation. If you have many years of experience working globally, then you’ll get a new framework and tools to help you work even more effectively. The programme trainer meets you exactly where you are and provides feedback that matches your experience level.

Where does GLOBAL STEPS take place?

GLOBAL STEPS is a 100% online programme. This means that you can participate in the programme from your workplace, from your home office, during a business trip, or wherever in the world you are.

What happens during the 6 weeks GLOBAL STEPS runs for?

The programme starts with a live kick-off webinar where you and the other participants meet the trainer and each other, team up as ‘learning buddies’, and start learning.

During the following weeks, you work individually on 3 specific, real-life challenges. You can access short ‘video-bites’ and other online support materials to help you solve the challenges. When you solve a challenge, you get feedback from the trainer and the other participants. You can also join a midway Q&A webinar.

We round off the programme with a final group webinar. Here you reflect on what you’ve learned and how you’ll implement it in your everyday work life.

NB: If you take GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme, then the precise content and duration will depend on the goals we set together. Read more here.

You write that I will work on 3 challenges during the programme. What are they about?

The challenges are based on your own specific global tasks. The principle here is ’learning-by-doing’: while working on the challenges, your new knowledge is translated into applicable skills, enabling you to achieve better results in your global tasks even while you’re enrolled in the programme. The 3 challenges build on each other, so for each challenge you become more effective in your communication and collaboration with global colleagues / partners.

I mostly work with colleagues from 2 specific countries. Can I learn something about these 2 specific countries / cultures during the programme?

GLOBAL STEPS is not designed to focus on a specific country or culture. However, as the programme’s challenges are based on your own tasks, there are plenty of opportunities to learn about exactly the country or culture that you most frequently interact with or which presents you with the most challenges. On top of that, you’ll gain tools that can be used in all tasks where you work cross-culturally, rather than just in collaboration with a single culture.

Will I be working independently throughout the entire programme?

No. In our experience, it can be difficult to stay motivated if you only work on your own. That's why we decided to combine the FLEXIBILITY of an online programme, where you can work at your own pace, with the MOTIVATION that comes from learning as part of a group, with a trainer who guides you through the whole process.

Right from the start, you and two other participants will join together as 'learning buddies', so you can share your knowledge and support each other as you solve the challenges. The trainer gives feedback on your challenge solutions and also helps answer any questions you may have along the way. In addition, the trainer will have a half-hour Q&A webinar midway through the programme.

We do our utmost to ensure that GLOBAL STEPS makes a difference in your life. But we also expect that you will be an active participant. You must make an effort if you want to gain the full benefit from the programme.

NB: If you take GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme, then we suggest you combine the programme with targeted 1:1 coaching sessions. Read more here.

Who is my programme trainer?

We have a number of trainers associated with GLOBAL STEPS. They all:

  • Have extensive hands-on experience with working globally.
  • Have 10+ years experience in intercultural training, both face-to-face and virtually.
  • Are passionate about delivering intercultural training that makes a difference for each and every participant!

What materials do I get access to?

You get access to all sorts of great resources:

  • 18 instructional videos from 1 to 10 minutes in length, in which C3's CEO and Chief Trainer, Annette Dahl, guides you through the various topics.
  • Worksheets and other online learning materials that you will use to solve the programme's 3 challenges.
  • Examples of challenges that other participants have solved.
  • Sound recording and slides from the programme's webinars.

Are there any restrictions on my access to the materials on the GLOBAL STEPS platform?

No. You can access all online material 24 hours a day. You can watch the learning videos and work with your challenges at your own pace, exactly when it suits you. Moreover, you can watch all the videos as many times as you need.

How long do I have access to the materials on the GLOBAL STEPS platform?

You can access all the online materials from the moment you are registered as a participant, throughout the entire programme, and for at least one year after the programme has ended. That way you can always return to the material and refresh your knowledge.

Which language is used in the programme?

The learning videos and all other online material are in English, and both the webinars and all feedback and discussions along the way are in English. However, if you have a group of employees who prefer to run an internal programme in Danish or another language, please contact us.

Can I watch all online material on both my computer and smartphone / tablet?

Yes, you can. You can log on to GLOBAL STEPS and watch both learning videos and the other online material from your PC / Mac and from your smartphone / tablet (independent of the operating system).

Are there any technical requirements that I should be aware of?

You need to have a regular internet connection to be able to log on to the GLOBAL STEPS platform and to participate in the webinars. When you participate in the webinars, it is important that your internet connection is relatively fast and stable. We also suggest that you use a headset for the webinars.

What if I can’t attend the programme’s webinars?

We record both the sound and slideshow from the webinars and make them available online, so you won't miss out on anything if the webinars don’t match your calendar or time zone.

How much time do I need to spend on the programme?

Besides the webinars, expect to spend about 2 hours per week during the 6 weeks the programme runs for. Of course the amount of time spent on the programme's challenges varies from participant to participant, but GLOBAL STEPS is designed to fit in with your day-to-day work.

NB: If you take GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme, then the amount of time you will spend each week depends on the goals we have set together. Read more here.

Can I see what the GLOBAL STEPS platform looks like before signing up?

Yes – in the video below you can see how the GLOBAL STEPS platform works (click here, if you prefer to watch the video directly on Vimeo).

I like the opportunity to exchange information with other participants and that it’s up to you which country you would like to focus on, this meets your specific demands.

Leaders, managers, project managers, and employees for whom global collaboration is a part of day-to-day life. For example, they work in virtual global teams, are involved in global projects, travel to sites around the world, or in other ways communicate and collaborate with colleagues and business partners across borders and cultures.

The other participants can be located anywhere across the globe and can represent many different nationalities and cultures. A number of them will typically be employed in Denmark-based companies that operate globally.

To ensure the best learning outcome, we allow a maximum of 15 participants in each open programme.

The price is finalized only after the start date is agreed upon.

How do I sign up and pay?

To sign up for an open programme, please email us at kontakt@c3consulting.dk. Specify who you’re registering as a participant (name + email), and who will pay for the programme (you / your company), then we’ll email an invoice. As soon as we’ve sent the invoice to you / your company, we'll  email you a link to the programme where you can access all online material right away.

We have several employees that we would like to sign up for an open programme. Can we get a discount?

Yes! Contact us and we'll give you a good price. An extra bonus is that when several employees participate in GLOBAL STEPS, they’ll get a common set of tools and a common language to deal with situations that involve cultural differences. This strengthens communication and collaboration in your organization.

I enjoyed working on the challenges themselves, as doing those exercises makes you think about specific differences that you might not be consciously aware of.

3. Specific information about GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme

When should I take GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme?

Here are a few examples of when you / your organization should use GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme:

  • You are a leader who will soon have new, global responsibilities, and you want to strengthen your global skills and understanding.
  • C3 Consulting has previously provided your company with intercultural training, and now you want to introduce a new leader to the same cultural tools, like 'The Cultural Investigator' and 'The 4R Model'.

There are many other situations where we would recommend GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme. Contact us to learn more!

What is the process for taking GLOBAL STEPS as an individual programme?

First we discuss with you and / or the relevant parties in your organization what you want to achieve. On that basis, we decide the programme's goals and content.

We usually suggest combining GLOBAL STEPS with targeted 1:1 coaching sessions. This gives you the highest learning potential, since you work with the 3 GLOBAL STEPS challenges independently and at the same time receive personalized coaching to help you translate the lessons into concrete tools that you can use in your real work environment. Read more about our 1:1 coaching here.

An individual programme can last anywhere from several weeks to several months. It all depends on what you want to achieve.

Do you have any examples of how GLOBAL STEPS works as an individual programme?

Yes! In this case study, you can read about a German manager whose promotion included an opportunity to relocate to Denmark. His new role included daily contact with production sites in East Asia as well as several business trips per year. To prepare for his new responsibilities, he combined GLOBAL STEPS with intercultural executive coaching.
