Do you need an easy yet comprehensive tool to lean on as you collaborate with global colleagues? The 4R Model is your go-to framework for navigating global work interactions. It’s an invaluable tool as handy as a GPS or a pocket-sized travel dictionary. The online course will give you a fresh perspective on cross-cultural collaboration. You will feel equipped to coach yourself and your colleagues, and confidently step into new cultural contexts.

‘Your Cultural GPS’ course is designed with a clear, intuitive structure that will keep you engaged with videos, polls, steps of action, and handouts to download. It’s sprinkled with reflective questions to help you make valuable links between your learning and your work context.

Annette Dahl, seasoned Interculturalist and CEO of C3 Consulting is your inspiring guide throughout the course. Her deep global experience brings theory to life, enriched with Annette’s insightful, real-world examples.

It’s an immersive journey into cultural self-awareness and cross-cultural collaboration. The course begins with an introduction to the 4R Model, diving into its four cultural parameters: RANK, RESPONSIBILITY, RISK, and RELATIONSHIP. It further offers practical applications and strategies for seamlessly integrating the 4R model into your workflow. With access to an extensive database of 4R Country Profiles, the online course prepares you to apply cultural intelligence in diverse settings, culminating in actionable strategies to effectively implement your newfound knowledge.

We have intentionally built the course as a linear, simple flow that will guide you and prevent the detours that easily happen in more complex, online cultural tools.  You can go through the course at your own pace and in whatever timeframe you have available. The 7 modules take roughly 3-3.5 hours to cover. We do recommend that you set aside an allocated time every couple of days or each week to stay focused and committed to your learning.

To maximize your outcomes, we strongly encourage you to team up with a partner or a colleague who is also taking the course so you can reflect and work on some of the exercises together. Alternatively, team up with a friend or work partner who can act as your accountability buddy as you share your progress and insights with them.

A note about our Country Profiles

Our country profiles provide valuable insights into cultural patterns, offering a starting point for understanding global colleagues, employees, and business partners. While these profiles describe general tendencies in national cultures, they are not checklists for deciphering individual behaviors. Instead, use them as a foundation for exploration and deeper cultural understanding.

Take a look at the 4R Country Profile for Denmark (download pdf here). As you can see, the country profile is structured around the 4R Model cultural parameters: RANK, RISK, RESPONSIBILITY, and RELATIONSHIP. These dimensions interconnect and influence one another, offering a nuanced view of cultural dynamics.

As you engage with the 4R Country Profiles, remember the importance of recognizing both differences and similarities between cultures. Understanding differences can help prevent misunderstandings and enable work style adjustments, while focusing on shared values fosters connection and builds trust across boundaries.
